To preface, I attend a French international school in the U.S., and a practice Baccalaureate exam had been scheduled to take place during the semi-finals of the World Cup that France was playing in. My school takes the Coupe du Monde very seriously.
Good evening,
I am writing with regard to the scheduling of the bac blanc exam. While I am writing on my own behalf, I speak for all the eleventh graders taking the exam. This exam is scheduled to take place while the semi-finals of the World Cup take place as well. During the match, France will play against Morocco. I ask that you consider rescheduling the exam. This is a historical and monumental moment for French history. France won the last World Cup, and, Wednesday, will have the opportunity to come closer to winning two World Cups in a row. The last time any team won back to back was sixty years ago. Generations of people have been born and have reached their senior years without anyone winning a back to back World Cup. The moment is historic. While we can reschedule this exam, we cannot reschedule such a momentous time in history. However, its importance does only pertain to history. This moment also promotes solidarity and camaraderie within the school. It promotes the French people and culture. It makes me, an American, feel as though I belong in the French community, and I thank Mme. head of school and Mr. principal for the opportunity to feel as such. This match makes the whole school feel connected. While watching the World Cup at school, I have made friends with freshmen, with seniors, with people I had never previously spoken. It connects disparate communities and it unites the school. As I write this, the eleventh graders taking the exam work hard to think of a fitting alternative time. I feel certain there must be a solution that makes everyone happy. I look forward to hearing back from you. Vive la France!
IT WORKED. Our exam was rescheduled
